Bouquet Watch: Protea Design

Check out one of our more unique bouquets we did this past year.   A simple yet, bold statement piece for the bridesmaids.  The design consisted of a large protea flower, with green leaf accents wrapped in a simple ribbon and wire treatment.   A perfect design for any outdoor ceremony, as this one with a vast mountain range backdrop, located at the beautiful Hummingbird Nest Ranch.

This particular  flower has an interesting back story I thought would be great to share.  It is believed in Greek mythology the flower, protea, was named after Proteus the son of Poseidon, the god whose power was the know all things past and present.  To hinder those seeking his knowledge, he would change his shape at will. How does this connect with the protea? Noted for the multitude of growth variations, the protea also presents itself as many different  characteristics as shapes, sizes,  and color.  Great tidbit from grecian legends!!
